Solarcentury marked this year’s Halloween with a fundraising event for the charity we founded, SolarAid. Solarcenturians took to the stage to sing, crack some jokes and entertain with some mind boggling magic tricks, raising close to £800.
Richard Turner and Tessa Kipping from SolarAid joined in the evening. Richard’s ‘Kerosene Aid’ get-up was the evil twin to Tessa’s ‘Solar Aid’ replete with solar lamp as the centrepiece for her costume!
Tessa said, “It’s great to have the Solarcentury team supporting SolarAid. We already feel their contribution on a daily basis given the 5% annual donation they make from net profits. And then to see all those ghouls and ghosts throwing a party for the cause is very touching. The Solar Champions have been extremely committed to the fundraising challenge and £800 is an amazing amount! Our online calculator shows that this equates to about 255 solar lights for rural families which collectively will save them £25,000 over the next three years so it’s a fantastic result from a fabulous party!’
The event was orchestrated by the ‘SolarChampions’, a group of seven Solarcentury people who have volunteered to organise a series of events throughout the year to raise money for SolarAid.
Other events they’ve organised this year included a ‘Solar Hike’ across the Chilterns, and tested their grit and determination at Tough Mudder 2015. This has all helped the team to raise an impressive £4,000 to date, so they’re well on their way to reaching their £10,000 target.
SolarAid is an international charity that combats poverty and climate change. SolarAid sells solar lamps through SunnyMoney, a social enterprise it set up in 2006 which is now the leading seller of solar lights in Africa.
